PITTSBURGH, Pa — The Obama campaign provided reporters on the president’s bus tour today with cookies from Bethel Bakery of Bethel Park, Pa., the tasty treats behind the infamous Mitt Romney “CookieGate.”
In April, the presumptive GOP nominee sparked controversy when he scoffed at the beloved local bakery’s cookies at a picnic meet-and-greet with local residents.
“I’m not sure about these cookies,” Romney said at the time. “They don’t look like you made them. No, no. They came from the local 7-11, bakery, or whatever.”
Locals were outraged and the bakery, which has been a hot-spot since 1955, jokingly offered a “CookieGate” special. The name stuck.
