The Obama campaign is holding a fundraiser with the cast of HBO's award-winning show "The Wire," according to an invitation obtained by the Sunlight Foundation's "Party Time."

The $500-per-person reception will take place on August 15 at the Martha's Vineyard abode of Judy and Ron Davenport, longtime Obama supporters who founded Sheridan Broadcasting in Pittsburgh and own a lovely spot in Oak Bluffs.

President Obama recently told Bill Simmons that The Wire, which ran from 2002 through 2008, "was one of the best shows of all time." His favorite character was Omar - a gay, scar-faced stick-up man who adhered to a strict moral code, played by Michael Kenneth Williams.

The cast members expected to attend the fundraiser include Williams, Jamie Hector (Marlo Stanfield), Clarke Peters (Detective Lester Freamon), Wendell Pierce (Detective William "Bunk" Moreland), Andre Royo ("Bubbles" Cousins) and Sonja Sohn (Detective Kima Greggs).

In the fall of 2010, Harvard offered a study group called "Obama in the Age of The Wire," and Williams himself appeared.
