MITT ROMNEY

ABC News’ Emily Friedman: “Mitt Romney’s Vacation Includes Meeting With Senior Advisers” It wasn’t all beach volleyball and water sports for Mitt Romney today. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee had a lakeside meeting with some of his most senior staff at around 1 p.m. LINK

The Washington Times’ Seth McLaughlin: “GOP waits for Romney to pick ‘tax’ or ‘penalty’” A semantic dispute over what defines “a tax” or “a penalty” has pushed Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign deeply off message as he struggles for the right response to last week’s Supreme Court ruling upholding the health care law. LINK

The Hill’s Justin Sink and Jonathan Easley: “GOP damage control after Team Romney definition of mandate” Republicans sought to do damage control for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Tuesday after a senior adviser’s tap-dance on the healthcare mandate.  New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in an appearance on Fox News suggested Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom misspoke when he called the mandate a penalty and not a tax, while other Republicans suggested Fehrnstrom’s comments were merely a trial balloon.  LINK

The Washington Post’s Nia-Malika Henderson and Karen Tumulty: “Mitt Romney supporters fight calls for campaign staff shake-up” Supporters of Mitt Romney are pushing back against calls for a campaign shake-up from Rupert Murdoch and Jack Welch, two industry titans who recently took to Twitter to advise the Republican presidential candidate to dump his staff. POTENTIAL VP

The New York Times’ Jegg Zeleny: “Possible No. 2 to Romney Knows Ways of the Capital” He has played the role of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Al Gore and Barack Obama. He has spent hours studying intricate details of their policy positions, perfecting the cadences of their voices and refining the lines of attack against their Republican opponents. For more than a decade, Senator Rob Portman, Republican of Ohio, has deployed an unusual expertise: impersonating Democrats to help candidates in his own party prepare for debates. LINK
