For someone who is empowered and indepndent, Fluke plays the female victim well. She is a womens rights advocate, and yet she is a poor helpless little woman who is desperately defending herself against the big bad GOP men who want to deny her free birthcontrol.

I think the war on women is headed by Fluke herself. Does she has such a lack of respect for woment that she would try to manufacture some type of situation so she could come out and champion the very situation she created?

Okay…this chick is 30 years old and still attending college…I’ve been told she has law degrees, but if she does, then why doesn’t she go get a JOB and pay for her OWN contraceptives, or even better, chip in to pay for all rest like her to get free contraceptives…and either she is the daughter of a 1%-er who can afford for her to attend college all her life, which makes her a hypocrit, or she’s getting student loans….maybe she doesn’t understand….they are LOANS not PAYCHECKS….shut up, and go get a job!

Again according to the Guttmacher Institute, 54% of women who have abortions DID USE a contraceptive method (usually the condom or the pill) during the month they became pregnant. It appears these women were attempting to be “responsible”. Where did you find your statistics?

And, a parallel number of women (42%) obtaining abortions have incomes below the federal poverty level ($10,830 for a single woman).

This would seem to indicate a target population of poor women who need contraception with a lower failure rate than your $4 version at Walmart. In case you did not know, contraception methods with lower failure rates are costly – such as implants, vasectomies, Essure, and IUDs.

Also, it indicates a decade of abstinence-only education did not educate women well enough to prevent abortions. True enough, while “money will not solve all the worlds problems and it sure will not create personal responsibility”, funding access to affordable, effective birth control is VASTLY more successful than attempting to legislate morality. Recall history for how well U.S. Prohibition worked.

Again, the Republicans efforts to de-fund affordable birth control and education is senseless for a political party so set against abortion. In my view it is short sighted, mean-spirited and self-righteous ignorance when the ultimate goal is to lift women out of poverty through family planning while preventing abortions.
