More women have been thrown into poverty by Obama than any other President. That's a fact. Just more projection from Obama the demagogue. Hmmm, reading American history tells us of the vast numbers of people who were suffering & elderly who were homeless. As for you analogy that unless it is in the Constitution, the government shouldn't do it, is ridiculous. We live in a much more complicated world in a country of over 350 million people. Contrast that with how few people lived here when the Constitution was written and how simple the times were! She was talking about a friend of hers who needed contraception medication for a medical problem, ovarian cysts. Why would any student, when they are choosing a school, ever assume that school would deny payments for needed medication. Have you ever priced prescription meds without insurance discounts? They are very expensive. The friend couldn't afford the medication out of pocket, tried to go without it and had one of her cysts rupture. She needed emergency surgery or would have bled to death. ] Just to clarify, Ms. Fluke was talking about the many women who need contraceptive medications for medical conditions! But back to Sandra Fluke: when she accepted admission to Georgetown, I'm sure she realized that as a Catholic school, they were NOT going to fund contraceptives. There are many good secular law schools in the DC area. Why couldn't she chose one of them? Also, I think if a woman is in an intimate relationship with a man, he should pay half of the cost of her birth control. It's only fair. If you're sleeping with a guy and he doesn't want to do this, then you should really reevaluate the relationship! I’m an Independent, so I’m not crazy about either candidate. If you want them to be funded then ammend The Constitution such that they are authorized and allowed. Until that time, crawl back into your nanny-state holes, get out of the way and let those who can, do. Then we'll see what this country is made of - conscientious, caring, giving people who willing give of their fortunes and time to those less fortunate. Being mandated by government is not the way to best serve those who have less. Where is he when the GOP talks about cutting or shutting down programs for children? That, programs like headstart, WICK, etc. are all woman's issues. He's trying to privatize our school system. Eventually they (congress) are going to do the same thing to government paid private schools, which incidentally have records that are no better and frequently worse than public schools, that they're currently trying to do to social security, medicare, and medicaid; decimate or eliminate the funding. Parent trying to pay for private schools for their children to attend because the public schools no longer exist should fit in well with jobs that are either missing permanently or much lower paying, don't you think? Obama hasn't stood up to anyone about anything since he walked in the door of the White House the first time. You do remember that's why people voted for him, don't you? We thought he would reverse Bush's policies. Instead he expanded them . Obama is no better on women's issues than Romney would be if he ever got the chance. How about the Lily Ledbetter Act which President Obama championed and signed? How about the Obama administration standing up against those who tried to defund Planned Parenthood, which is the only source of medical care for so many poor women to receive screenings and exams? And complains about having to pay for food stamps that poor working families need to feed their children.
