Romney would end our dependence on imported oil by burning up our own oil first. Where did he learn arithmetic?
Romney wants to get rid of renewables. He also wants to get rid of passenger trains, our most energy-efficient transportation mode. Why is he so eager to augment China's success in beating the pants off the US in green jobs and passenger rail?
Romney wants more oil and gas consumption. If he were trying to cure alcohol addiction, would he prescribe more whiskey?

The state of Utah (state headquarters of the LDS/Mormon Church and host state of Romney's 2002 Winter Olympics), has an aspiration to become the next Energy Capital/Headquarters of the United States (oil, gas, coal, wind, etc.) - probably by 2020. This will not be possible unless Utah Senator Orin Hatch, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert and other LDS faithful lawmakers have the advantage of re-writting all the federal rules in favor of making this dream come true. A sample of what this energy related future may bring is Utah house bill HB 148 passed by the legislature earlier this year and signed by Governor Gary R. Herbert. HB 148 is Utah's latest attempt to take control of Utah's federal lands. This and other similar future movements will all be made possible through the work of Utah Senator Orin Hatch (a pioneer of states rights) and other LDS faithful lawmakers, (also talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh, and Glen Beck), and their big never ending push for states rights. I personally find the dream plan quite disturbing and I am not really sure Mitt Romney has mine or your best interests in mind.

Tell me Mr. Romney, which states are going to produce all this oil under your plan? North Dakota is prodlucing more oil every day. How is it that policies of the federal government are not preventing that? They are now fracking for oil in Texas. How is it that federal policies are not preventing that.? Tell us in more detail just what you are talking about.

It will all be exported to the highest bidder. He said we would produce but now we export more than we consume. Please don't pay attention to the guy behind the curtain, he doesn't exist. Let your children breath deeply as they consume toxic gases that make monry for pharamacutical companies... here comes the Muffin man and what do you think is causing those kids with mental diseases. Hello ..hello....is their anyone in there...

I don't like Romney, and don't believe half of what he says. However, you have to look at the dueling economic principals and not the men. Obama's demand side economics simply cannot work. His policy on social programs is coounter intuitive to economic growth (well intentioned as they may be), and if the economy doesn't speed up before the next bubble burst (which WILL be the housing bubble...again), than we are looking at another recession which will become a depression. Every depression in the history of the world has been catalyzed by two recessions with slow growth in between.

EW3: "The enviros told us back in the 1970s we’d be out of oil by 1999".

What year did you take freshman courses in calculus, physics and chemistry? Peak oil is often confused with "running out" of oil - actually, peak oil is the point of maximum production, while "running out" refers to a period of falling reserves and supply.

Stay current. knowledge changes and Republicans want to drag us back to the dark ages.

The last 30 years of dumbing down education are apparent in the comments here.

There is plenty of gas, oil and clean coal for the next 100+ years.
(The enviros told us back in the 1970s we'd be out of oil by 1999. Odd, we now have more then ever. Guess they were wrong then, just as they are wrong now)

Just get out of the way and we can get this country going again.

My guess the author of this article was a journalist major and not a science/engineering major.
Most liberal arts majors could not pass my freshman year courses in calculus, physics and chemistry. And who would you prefer to be shaping opinion ?
