REPUBLICAN CONVENTION:
ABC News’ Russell Goldman and Emily Friedman: “Mitt Romney Accepts Nomination and Promises to ‘Restore America’” In a precisely planned climax to the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney accepted his party’s presidential nomination and promised “restore America” by creating jobs and fulfilling the hope that he claims President Obama failed to deliver on. The New York Times’ Jeff Zeleny: “Romney Vows to Deliver Country From Economic Travails” Mitt Romney accepted the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday by making a direct appeal to Americans who were captivated by President Obama’s hopeful promises of change, pledging that he could deliver what the president did not and move the country from its worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. LINK

The Washington Post’s Dan Balz: “Romney draws battle lines in GOP acceptance speech” Mitt Romney claimed the Republican presidential nomination here Thursday night with a promise to restore the nation’s economic strength and a critique of President Obama’s record, which he said has turned hope and change into failure and disappointment for the nation’s families. LINK

Politico’s Ginger Gibson: “Mitt Romney makes case to ‘disappointed’ voters in RNC speech” Mitt Romney sought to reset public perception of himself while also attacking President Barack Obama in a nomination acceptance speech that also expanded on his biography and resume. “I will work with all my energy and soul to restore that America, to lift our eyes to a better future,” Romney said. “That future is our destiny. That future is out there. It is waiting for us. Our children deserve it, our nation depends upon it, the peace and freedom of the world require it. And with your help we will deliver it.” LINK

Bloomberg: “Romney’s Misleads On Obama Health Cost: Reality Check” Each side has made statements about the other’s positions in the presidential campaign. How do some assertions in Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention square with the facts? LINK

The Hill’s Peter Schroeder: “Convention debt clock posts final tally of $8.5B” The final tally of American debt accumulated during the Republican convention: $8,539,526,393.07.  After three days speeches from the GOP’s biggest names, the ever-climbing numbers on a debt clock in the Republican convention hall froze in place after House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) officially closed the 2012 Republican National Convention on Thursday night in Tampa, Fla. LINK

The Los Angeles Times’ David Lauter: “America deserves better, Romney says, pledging jobs” Declaring that “we deserve better” than the economic record compiled by President Obama, Mitt Romney accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for president Thursday and said he had a specific plan to create “jobs, lots of jobs.” Speaking to what was almost certainly the largest – and perhaps the most consequential – audience of his almost six-year-long quest for the presidency, Romney lauded private enterprise and sought to reassure voters still uncertain about him by telling a more personal story of his life. LINK

The New York Daily News’ Jonathan Lemire: “Mitt Romney accepts nomination with speech declaring that Obama failed, warning that America’s greatness is in danger” Mitt Romney accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for President Thursday by declaring that Barack Obama failed to deliver the change he promised — and warned that America’s future greatness is in danger. LINK

The Washington Times’ Stephan Dinan: “Romney accepts GOP nomination at RNC, vows leadership, ‘lots of jobs’” Mitt Romney on Thursday accepted the nod to lead an ever-more conservative Republican Party against a powerful but politically vulnerable incumbent, telling a national audience that this year’s election comes down to jobs and President Obama’s failure to create enough of them.
