as a small child growing up in the south i was told that i would go to hell if i did not repent my sins. I remember thinking “im not bad”. Wonder if my gay son has the same reaction to this controversy over his lifestyle. By the way he is a well respected professional with many friends and family who love and respect him and his partner. Wonder if he thinks “im not bad.

Hey Carl, let me spell it out for you instead. The name of a commenter appears BELOW their comments. I didn’t leave the comment you’re complaining about. That said, your response is pointless, as there is no such thing as “hell” just as there is no such thing as “god.” And we’ll be much better off as a society when we stop allowing these fictional concepts to govern our society.

Fred Flint, you are indeed simple minded… so let me spell it ouf fo you… you said

You see Fred, I used that verse to correct the foolishness of those who – like Kimba – say stupid things like “If he (God) claims to have created us and loves us ALL, that means ALL no matter what .

Clearly that is not the case. If true, there would be no one being sent to hell becuase God loves us all. right.

Fredie, if you can’t keep up with the conversation, perhaps you should say nothing at all :)

Granite, As to actual words that are not to be said, and that the Bible teaches against saying, you are right. But the Bible also talks about “chaste conversation,” and “filthy conversation.” This conversation is not talking about life-style….sometimes the word, “conversation,” means that. These references do refer to words that we say. When first introduced into the English language, both of the words that you referenced were immediately identified by the majority of English speakers, as not appropriate, dirty, coarse, curse words. They were not included….for many years……in any dictionary. Now, unfortunately, there have been enough people who have used them, that we hear them……on the t.v., in the movies. It is a matter of opinion. But, for my money, and for many others, they are not to be used.
I can’t stop anyone from using curse words. But, doesn’t the other person’s freedom to say those words end where my ears have to hear them? I can’t “not” hear them, when they are spoken, and I am in range. It does have something to do with respect of the other person. And, knowing that many don’t want to hear them, or have their children hear them, then I should curtail my freedom of speech, in respect of their freedom of not hearing offensive words.

On the topic of swearing. God clearly says not to take His name in vain. To me, that is rather simple to understand and to know which words not to say. JC, GD, or just plain God in any way other than prayer to Him. Simple right. The sh word is nothing other than a word to describe poo and is not taking His name in vain. The f word is an acronym for fornicate under consent of the king. We hold that word as the worst of the worst, and I can understand why when a king can tell you when you can or can’t do that with your spouse.
The s word and the f word are words that people invented and words that people also have decided to be not proper. Not the Lord. He only cares about whether you take His name in vain or not. Which happens all too often and happens way too much in TV let alone movies and is viewed by too many as not swearing.

Anne, you don’t do the cause any good by posting incorrect numbers, 11 to 15% of the population is Gay.
Maybe you forgot a decimal place.
1.1 to 1.5% is pretty close.
Then again, maybe you are talking about San Francisco where the 15% number is about right.
None of this matters though.
Garriage is acceptable to the majority of people in the USA.
The redefining of Marriage obviously is not.

That’s what I am saying, Jeff. I was a U.S. military member for 20+ years. I would have defended both of their rights to say what they want to. But, I would not have defended them ONE MINUTE for trying to stop any other from saying what they want to. Having said that, I would remind both that
they must – and will – take responsibility for what they say, and how they say it. Noone is above that.

The black politician has a right to his own view. I agree with his view. But, he does not have a right to restrict anyone from voicing his/her viewpoint. But, Kluwe’s answer is as wrong. It should never have been put into the news. It is an affront to any person who is able to think and talk above a garbage can level. And, it is as much trying to still the politician as the politician was trying to still the other football player. A few too many hits on the head, maybe.
