Finally more diversity in the US when it comes to religion. I'm tired of being lectured on GOD and how great he is and how awful it is that I don't believe. For those of you that this statistic pisses off you better get used to it because one day this country will be mostly made up of those who don't recognize any religion. My my how the tables are turning. :) YES! Finally more diversity in the US when it comes to religion. I’m tired of being lectured on GOD and how great he is and how awful it is that I don’t believe. A Pew study in 2011 found that 61 percent of Americans would be less likely to support a candidate that didn’t believe in God. "---One can believe in God and still not be religious like, for example, some of the founders of our nation who were Deists. So, the poll taken by the Pew organization is faulty. Locke, Jefferson, Franklin, Paine and others were not religiously inclined fearing that to be so and especially to craft a nation based on religion, would be a threat to liberty and freedom. I wholeheartedly agree with them. “Belief in God matters to Americans in politics. I wish you well and I pray you do have a full life as you stated.--as I do you. But please dont think life is meaningless without a God or religion. You touch people, you are good, and what you do carries on, carries forward. when you are good, you do make the world a better place, you make a person feel loved, you are a beautiful rose that graced the earth and when your time is over, you nod and say "it was great. I loved. I lived. I am at peace. " You know that love mingles in the spirits of those who knew you and whom you touched, and long after there is no one on this earth who knew you is alive, what you passed forward, the kindess, the love, still gets passed down. IT's the love that lives on. We need to see ourselves as part of something bigger than ourselves. to be doing our part, our duty, to humanity. Good night. . I more consider myself an "i dont know" than someone who says there definitely isnt a God. And I'm not going to pretend to know what people I have nothing to do with motivate them living 500 miles away from me. Perhaps they were victims of the Catholic church. I have kids, it's a pity more young people aren't more mindful of being in public is a place where young people are, but I remember going into boston shopping and being stunned by a protest with the Christians and their anti abortion idiocy with pictures of bloody fetuses yelling "whores!" "sluts!" at girls who very well could have been raped, and I was just in the neighborhood for business that had nothing to do with this spectacle. That protest was launched by the Catholic church! So all the while they are molesting boys and protecting criminals, they are screaming at girls who, i'm sure some, were victims of sexual abuse. The Catholic church receiving insults, i just dont have an ounce of pity for. I recently read the 'review' of the nuns group the Catholic church was 'radical feminism". These wonderful nuns helping women, just helping poor people, apparently weren't being second class citizens enough for the bishops. Disgusting. how i wanted to just hug those women and say "why do you allow yourselves to be ruled by abusive men? Leave. Leave and just do your good work in your own name. You dont need this place. Let it die. It's poison to society. " good night. This was a fringe group who are not supported by anyone. in fact, at another funeral, Christians at local churches surrounded a cematary holding hands to protect a family burying their loved one to prevent these people from showing. Whatever. I guess it all comes down to the end of our lives when the curtains close and our life is over. Did our lives, loves and even failures really matter or were we just living in an empty, lifeless universe devoid of meaning, love and hope. I wish you well and I pray you do have a full life as you stated. Dawkins, a famous scientist, challenged everyone to "ridicule and show contempt" towards all things holy for believers while another speaker said there should be zero tolerance , however, for anyone who disagrees or insults atheism. If you don't believe me about this - please take the time to read for yourself. The mood was very festive there in spite of the four letter words slung regularly from the podium. There were hate speeches concerning the Catholic church in particular. While some here continue their rantings against the hate and intolerance in religion and people of faith - they are totally ignoring the hate being spewed from atheists. The American atheists finally had to surrender and take down their signs at the Democratic convention that mocked Mormons and Christians. This was done out of respect for President Obama and his family who are Christians. If religion is full of hate and intolerance – then tell me what this is? How about t he Christians that love to picket the funerals of dead soldiers? Lovely group. Or the guy who burned the Koran. yeah, that helped our soldiers, huh? Or the other loud mouth judgemental idiots who claim to be doing God's work? Spare me. "I don’t suppose you believe in forgiveness and mercy either" ---why? Because I"m so stupid I need a book to tell me so? Dont get me wrong. I believe in philosophy and surely Plato and Kant are as interesting to read as some biblical stories, but I dont put anymore weight on a story from a bible, and sometimes clearly, the bible is so full of bull, prejudices, sexism, that it's hardly philosophy and more of a hope that there is some father figure that will take me away to some fantasy heaven that they apparently need to cope with their lives. NOT believing is the real hard thing to do. To do the right thing simply because...it is right. Period. No, you get no reward in the end. Other than how good it feels to live a righteous life and have earned the respect and admiration of your children for being a strong person, a good person, the type you can count on. why would it matter at all if we did anything right??? I dont know. I dont NEED to know. For our survival? Why do we love? Why do we cry? I dont need to know! It's not in our realm of understanding. We are aemobas. We probably dont have the intellectual capacity to understand or, maybe there is nothing to understand, we just happened. So, suck the marrow out of life. Love. Be respectful, be good. It feels good to be good! THat's just in our genes, it is etched into humanity, we do not need a book to tell us to be good, but books sure can be used to do evil!!! And are. And cop outs, and excuses and judgemental... i think humanity would be far better off if we just realized, this is it. Jesus was a great man. ...period. Muhammed...eh. But no excuses, no rewards, you are who you are, responsible for what you do, there you go. You own who you are and what you do and what type of earth you pass on. No, sex isn't evil, love isn't evil, homosexuality isn't evil. Being evil is evil! And dont tell me you dont understand when someone is being evil to someone else! I think we'd be far better off.
