It’s funny, but there’s a lot of truth involved. The Republicans, who hate America and everything it stands for, have been trying to tear our country to shreds since Herbert Hoover caused the Great Depression nearly a century ago. Thank God we got a real American in office. Obama’s managed to get the country back on course, and even got us on track to catch up with the rest of the First World and get a decent healthcare system in place. He’s done a lot to undo the damage that the Republicans did to America during GW Bush’s Reign of Error, but there’s still a lot to be done and conservatives, like their skinhead brethren in Germany will always be around, hating, lying, and doing everything they can to reshape America into the kind of feudal world that our ancestors left “The Old World” to escape.

You are right Dave. The first time i heard about the 1994 change was is 2010 so I had assumed at that time that they change was recent. The change in 1994 made is so that self-employed, chronicly unemployed, and those not even looking for work are no longer counted. Those changes were minor in 1994 because the rate was %6 and the job market hadn’t fallen out yet. But for the last 6 years, thousands of Americans have fallen through the cracks because after 2-3 years (depending on the state) your unemployment benefits run out and you stop being counted as unemployed. So because there are thousands more unemployed than when Obama took office, the number should be higher but because of the change, the number is much lower. The original way of calculating it was started in 1930 and if we went back to that scale, the unemployment would be around %12 (which should actually be down to around %10 because the 1930 laws counted children workers which are illegal now). The unemplyment numbers HAVE changed and the Obama administration has cracked down on the number of people taking advantage of the unemployment system (those who have been on unemployment for longer than 3 years through some error or fault of the government) and that crack-down (unwittingly?) caused those people to no longer be counted as unemplyed. It’s not that Obama changed the laws (my mistake) it’s just that he has used the loophole of “chronic” unemplyment to make the numbers seem lower than they should be. I will note that both Bush’s, Pres Clinton, and Mr Obama have taken advantage of this law as well.
