The only way to reduce our security footprint is to leave. As long as Americans are serving overseas they deserve the best security we can provide. There is no excuse for not having increased security on the anniversary of 911.

Wow your posts are nice theory but welcome to reality. If you read Jake's previous posts (and any other news source about Benghazi, security) you will see this didn't happen in a vacuum (over 230 security incidents in the previous year alone, this consulate had been bombed TWICE this past summer assassination attempt on British Ambassador) but State was DECREASING security.
Also when you help overthrow a gov't you expect that weak new gov't can't (like they told us upfront) guarantee security that's why there are 15,000 troops protecting the embassy in Iraq and that was overthrown how many years ago (of course that was done with congressional approval whereas as Libya- not so much). But to your point then why wasn't the admin screaming about Egypt or Yemen when the attacks on our embassies there first happened -instead they came out complaining about an amateur video.
You're right about the political showmanship but unfortunately it cost 4 American lives and who knows how many others since the embassy and it's documents weren't secure for at least 3 weeks after the incident.

Republicans on this committee secretly traveled to Lybia, have cherry-picked those who give testimony and have withheld documents from Democrats who sit on the committee. How political can this get?

Has everyone forgotten that it is the responsibility of the host nation to provide security for resident diplomats? And even then, armed, active-duty American military stationed at embassies are not there to protect State Dept staff, but to ensure that sensitive information stored at those sites is protected and/or destroyed if the location comes under attack. This is all being done for political showmanship. Issa is not only a complete idiot, but now he thinks the State Dept should employ a crystal ball to predict attacks before they happen.

"the State Department was eager for the American diplomatic presence in Libya to reduce its American security footprint and to rely more on locals" - Jake Tapper

Ah, another misguided Obama Muslim Outreach Initiative.
This is in keeping with his Hands Tied Behind the Back Afghanistan Rules of Engagement.
Makes a lot of sense in a Liberal Sociallist way.

And Shyla, what does any of that have to do with Libya? What does any of that have to do with a President and his staff LYING continuously for weeks about a protest incited by a tape, a protest that just got out of hand. Tonight ABC News is reporting that the State Dept. ADMITS that there was NO PROTEST before the attack-the first warning that the consulate got was an EXPLOSION.

9/111 happened on Bush's watch. The embassy in Beirut was attacked on Reagan's watch. 7 embassies were attacked on Bush's watch.

Obama and his lackeys flat out lied about the attack in Libya -- for a full WEEK. Why? Because they basically got an ambassador and several others killed through narcissistic negligence and incompetent indifference.

Wow, the tea party is doing all it can to make Libya an election issue….

You mean Democrats wouldn't make it an election issue if a Republican president was responsible for withdrawing security from a vulnerable U.S. Consulate that resulted in four Americans being tortured and murdered on the anniversary of 9/11? Please.

ABC News is one of the few news outlets that is giving this story the proper scrutiny and I applaud them for it. BTW, Jake Tapper is a Democrat.

1 American life is too many under any administration

Obama is responsible for over 2,000 (or 70%) of all US casualties in Afghanistan. The media yawned when he hit that milestone. When Bush was in office, the media salivated giving us daily body counts and showing us pictures of flag-draped coffins at every opportunity.
