i think obama should take us over the cliff then we can really restructure the tax code. during that time the country will figure out who butters their bread and it wont be obama.i am willing to take the hit to watch this unfold. then we can all pay our fair share.

obama will not let that happen as he would no longer be in control of the dialogue.let them expire please.

LOL...LOL..NOZ...if he (the President) let's the 'deadline' come and go...it is only to ensure that the 'wealthy's' tax rates will go up...and allow 'political cover' for the "pathetic Republicans who are afraid of telling Grover Norquist to 'shove it'.

Let's get back to the topic at hand.
I say, let the deadline come and go without a deal.
Let the tax cuts expire.
Give Barry the golden opportunity to solidify his legacy.
President Anti-Lincoln is sure not to disappoint.

ANT tax break or reduced tax is NOT a tack from anyone. Government is spending WAY beyond it's designed function and current tax rates would more than support the limited true function of our government. ...and they ARE entitlements by definition. Entitlements are a guaranteed access to benefits. We can discuss which entitlements should stay or go, but ALL government benefit programs are 'entitlements' and spending over 60% of our total outlay is not sustainable.

HOWWIE63

If you think the wealthy and corporations aren't taking from the middle class you’re misinformed. What do you think all those tax breaks, subsidies, and tax loopholes come from? You and I pay for them.

Republicans call Social Security and Medicare "entitlements" even though we all have paid with money out of our paychecks. The tax breaks, subsidies, and tax loopholes are not paid for by big business. They are given to them because of legalized corruption in our campaign process.

I have no problem with small businessmen who come from the middle class, who are innovative and motivated. They can't compete with the large companies who are given an unfair advantage. How many small stores do you think have been put out of business by Wal-Mart, how many jobs lost?

Being rich is not a vice, we all want to be there but we all need a level field to play on.

Tim - You'll not get back what you what you paid in plus interest. Maybe you'd have been better off getting all of that in income yourself. ....and I HAVE paid for infrastructure as we continue to pay for today.

No, TM, we have NOT always had a divid like we have now. It has not always been an 'us against them' mentality. And at ANY point when one group thinks they should/could use government to take from another we all owe it to ourselves to stand and stop the madness. There is NO wealthy person who has forcably taken from the middle or poor in recent times and there is NO cause to set upon them or anyone else to do so now. We do not have so much of a wealth divide than we do an ideaological divide. ...but I will agree, it is driven by greed. “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.” The policy of the American government is to leave their citizens free, neither restraining nor aiding them in their pursuits. The majority, oppressing an individual, is guilty of a crime, abuses its strength, and by acting on the law of the strongest breaks up the foundations of society. "The republicans can’t give a reason they do except trickledown theory that has never worked and is the most illogical idea ever conceived." I believe, dear friend, you will find that the longest period of economic growth and peace time prosperity was a result of 'trickle down'. Only when conservative taxation, liberal spending, and government intervention (by way of management decisions, not regulation) combined did we see a collapse.

Looked at my last Social Security Statement from 2010 - I've contributed over a $108K with a matching over $110K from my employer who would have paid that money to me, making it over $218k paid in. Who are you talking about "entitlements" when I've paid in to recieve beneftis? Just because Bush gave away the budget surplus (based on SS overcollections) mostly to the ultra rich doesn't mean I didn't pay the money in. What happened to the "Lock Box" for Social Security? Those of you complaining about "entitlements" are too young to have paid for the roads, bridges, sewers, water ways and other infrastructure. What, you thought you inhereted it as a freebie? Get to work and quit your whinning! PS: My tax withholding already exceeds $27k this year, not including unemployment and disability.

HOWIE63

We’ve always had a house divided and we've stood pretty well.

The upper class fights for their interests, nothing wrong with that, it just shows they're smart enough to defend their own standard of living.

Then you have the middle class and working poor who generally defend their interests. The problem is the upper crust is united and has the money to buy influence.

The middle class also has republicans who constantly side with the wealthy. The republicans can't give a reason they do except trickledown theory that has never worked and is the most illogical idea ever conceived.
