Instead of raising Taxes what if OBAMA pushed into action a
( UNCLE SAM LOTTERY) WHICH WOULD RESTORE & SAVE THE VALUE OF THE AMERICAN DOLLAR BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE WHERE ALL THE PROFIT WOULD GO, MANDATORY THAT ALL STATES WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS ONE.

Make the new dollar coins as large as they originally were. That way you can’t confuse them with quarters. I spent a Susan B. Anthony dollar thinking it was a quarter and the store clerk did not notice either. Having a few big old coins in your pocket is kind of a nice feeling.

If we make the switch, what happens to the commodity cost of all the additional metal we’ll need in order to make them? Did the GAO take that demand and likely price spike into account?

Dollar coins are the way to go, I’ve been using them for well over a year now and they’re great. They aren’t heavy, they don’t get lost easy, and most vending machines don’t need to be retooled because they’ve been converted already. Hell, the Vending Machine lobby is one of the groups that WANTS THIS, because it’s cuts costs for them.

I really hope that we can get our act together and stop using the wasteful dollar bill. But even if people can’t be convinced that it will save money I will continue to use them.

Aren’t the Sacagawea coins gold, so as to tell them apart from quarters? And the Susan B. Anthony was octagonal and a little bigger to tell it apart from quarters, too? Hard to be sure since I haven’t seen any lately….except the pile of Sac. dollars in my grandson’s jar. Might be design flaw — too many people spending them as quarters.

They are right about the coins lasting longer than bills, about 7 years ago a woman walked into my store and bought a t-shirt and paid with Sacagawea dollars. I put the coins in the far left slot in my cash register, all 17 are still there today.
