The GOP and its representatives are highly principled, except when the principles get in the way of their practical goals of taking the White House and both houses of Congress. McCain and Ryan have both softened their positions on immigration because the Latino vote was overwhelmingly against the GOP in the last election. They WANT those votes. No one is suggesting that employers should be held in any way accountable, because cheap labor is good for business.

The GOP shot down Susan Rice’s nomination for Secretary of State because they didn’t like something she said on Sunday news shows. They oppose Chuck Hagel because “he irked me” (McConnell) and “he was right in the middle of things” (McCain). But they practically begged John Kerry to accept a cabinet appointment. “It would sail through,” as McCain put it.

Four years ago, Kerry was painted as a disgusting phony, a coward, a liar, a hypocrite who wrote his own decorations in Vietnam, who spoke French, had a rich wife, and flip flopped daily. This revolting specimen of humanity is the man the GOP would now love to see as Secretary of Defense. (Talk about “flip flopping”.)

Why? Because if Kerry accepts the appointment he’ll have to resign his Senate seat from Massachusetts and open up a run for Republican Scott Brown, who remains relatively popular, although he lost the last election.

Every country has laws regulating immigration, follow U.S. immigration laws and you get your shot at the dream. Break the laws and you get DEPORTED!

If the GOP keeps the racist attitudes toward Hispanics, things will only get worse. Tuesday was a sign for things to come.
Demography is destiny, and the GOP is on the wrong side of demographics. There simply aren’t enough angry old white men to vote other angry old white men in office.
How do you want a “legal” Hispanic person to hear your message when you want to deport his illegal counsin, brother, daughter, or grandfather?
As Harry Reid said the other day, the GOP can try and reject a comprehensive immigration reform at their won peril. A just and comprehensive reform of the immigration laws is a matter of when not if. Millions of hard-working immigrants deserve a shot at the American dream.

Roosevelt’s words on immigration from 1919.
Following is part of a speech by President Theodore Roosevelt in January 1919. I believe it speaks volumes.

From the 1930′s to ~1965, the US stopped accepting immigration applications. Until the 23 million Americans are helped, we should consider revisiting this policy.

As this economy continues its slowdow (how many companies announced how many layoffs?), as the work dries up, many illegal will return to their homelands just as the Italians did in the 1930′s. Buy food on sale; stock up on the non perishables.

23 million, that’s 23,000,000 American citizens or legal residents are unemployed, underemployed or just not working. What the ???? is this going to do to help them???????? Don’t Americans deserve the be helped first? Mr McSame, what do you say to all those Americans in their time of need?
