When North Carolina seceded from the Union in 1861, Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks voted to secede from North Carolina and sent two Senators and a Representative to Washington to represent the islanders; Congress refused to seat them. Ocracoke remains to this day a cantankerous sort of place. Ocracokers sold diesel fuel to German submariners operating off the coast in WW2, but they also collected and buried British merchant seamen who washed up on Ocracoke from torpedoed ships offshore. After the War, Ocracokers gave their little cemetery to the Crown but continue to lovingly tend it to this day. The only access to the island is still by state-owned ferry. Ocracokers also still speak the most beautiful lilting lyrical singsong English heard anywhere on Earth.

Ok here is the deal. The folks asking for secession I highly doubt are just whining because Mitt Romeny did not win. Let's face facts he is not exactly a prize either. Neither choice was much of a choice this round. That being said, saying that those individuals should be stripped of their citizenship because they used the right to free speech is just ridiculous. I mean if Michelle Obaman can complain about AMerica's "silly little flag" as she called it. I do not see how those asking for secession would deserve it any less than a president's wife who has no regard for our country's flag. However, both her husband and herself are still supposed to represent this country. The individuals who are asking for secession are doing so I would imagine for multiple reasons. Among those the feeling that the US is quickly becoming anything but free. STate and Federal governments are in place to balance each other to keep one from being more powerful than the other. Quite bluntly the Federal government obviously has more power. That imbalance is an issue. I do not for a minute believe the individuals truely want a secession. I beieve it is more about making a stance that things within the country need to change if we are to hold true to our founding principles as a country. Remember this country was founded on colonies which seceeded from England for a lot of the same reasons people are asking for secession now. They were but a few and at best considered to be a few "nutters" . However, you see what they managed to do in order to get the rights they feel they deserved.

I have been reading the posts by people saying "Get out if you do not like it".....The people have the right to vote their state out of the Union. And if you feel that is wrong.. then vote "no" in your state. But to even think that "Kicking people out" is an option?? Do not ask why people would want out. Attitudes like that are a prime reason SO MANY people are fed up.
This is more then a hand full of people and those acting like it is a few people really need to wake up. Reasons people are so mad??
1)Our "Government" sells weapons to Mexican Drug Cartels and gets caught... The people involved still hold their jobs and yet again a President (Obama) claims to know nothing and after proof he did is shown he claims national security and refuses to answer any questions.
2) Governments over stepping their bounds with things like: child discipline , Child Support , Taxes , Self raises (Politician) ,
3) Supply to other countries in the billions of dollars while our own Citizens struggle to keep food on the table.
4) People are sick of popular vote not counting.
5) People are sick of the wealthy being the only names on a ballot and not having a real say in who is chosen to be on those ballots. (And before anyone claims we do have a say... read and learn)
6) You never really own anything... You only rent it from this "Government" till you hit hard times and they swoop in to take it all away.
7) Medical .... We the people have our taxes used in Medical tests but yet we are charged $50 for a $0.03 aspirin. People cannot afford Medical due the cost they keep raising each year is almost 1/4 of a avg house hold income.
8) This "Government" has let poisons be placed in massive amounts of foods to reduce populations. (Aspartame , MSG , Fluoride , Cotton Seed Oil ... and the list goes on)

Why would people want to be part of a "Union" that's actions are that of an enemy ... not a United States of America !!!

Ignorance is the one thing they have been able to count on as a government. Americans are "Lazy". People would rather watch "Honey Boo Boo" then look into all I have posted here.
I am not looking for an enemy or friend. I am just going to cross my fingers that maybe at least 1 of you will open your eyes at least a little and pretend to give a crap.

By having a petition for an entire state, those individuals are trying to force their will on the rest of the people in their state. If their state were to succeed in the seceding (huh what?), they would force people in their (former) state to immigrate from their new country IN ORDER TO REMAIN A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES. Wouldn't it be much easier if those people who don't like the United States to simply immigrate themselves (and not the rest of the people in their state) to another country?

Fact is, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Tennessee could leave, unite together and be far more financially fit than the rest of the country combined by selling natural resources alone. couple that with wind power development in Oklahoma, worlds largest reyailer in Arkansas, Tech companies in Texas…You people are dillusional to think these states would suffer in the least without the federal govts overbearing thumb. As far as the military base closings in these states…get real if you think they couldnt raise an army to defend their new government. BTW most military aircraft are built in Texas also. The combined number of signatures within 10 days has already reached 1/31 of the ENTIRE U.S. population in 1880; 1/27 if you remove slave population. Regardless, people are obviously disgusted with the way this country operates.

A move to recall Gov. Perry is underway. He has to be removed before Texas can Secede. When Texas goes, many states will join them. I can't wait to leave the liberals to their sinking ship of foolishness.

Dear Blue America,

It's not me, its us. We've grown apart over the years. I can't remember the last time that you brought me flowers or even pulled your own weight around here. Perhaps it would be best for the children if we divorced.

Sincerely,
