Sweetie and Hon are usually used by women. I know my daughter is getting irritated with someone when she says “listen hon....” .... General Allen is from Virginia. What may seem flirtatious to a cold shouldered Yankee, is just personable in parts of the south. It some parts of Texas it’s just talking. But then in the South a man will still look you in the eye and shake your hand.
