Full Coverage of the Senate Deal from ABC News / Univision - A bipartisan group of senators on Monday formally unveiled their proposal to drastically overhaul the nation's immigration system, with the hope of passing a bill out of the Senate by late spring or early summer.

"We believe this will be the year Congress finally gets it done," Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., one of the members of the so-called "Gang of Eight" said during a press conference on Capitol Hill.

Five of the eight members of the group - Schumer, Bob Menendez, D-N.J., Dick Durbin, D-Ill., Marco Rubio,R-Fla., and John McCain,R-Ariz. - appeared at the press conference intended to outline their immigration proposal. The proposal would provide a path to citizenship for many of the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants while upping border security and cracking down on businesses that hire workers who are not legally present in the U.S.

"The discussions, which top aides close to the talks discussed on the condition that they not be identified, are described as "Washington's best-kept secret." Last week, House Speaker John Boehner spilled the beans on the secret group, revealing that the lawmakers had been "meeting for three or four years now" and that they are almost ready to present their proposals publicly.

"They basically have an agreement. I've not seen the agreement. I don't know all the pitfalls, but it's, in my view, the right group of members," Boehner, R-Ohio, told the Ripon Society last week during remarks that were closed to the press, as first reported by The Hill. Well, the plain fact of the matter is that border numbers haven't been as low since the early 1970s. We've really changed the - that aspect of the border, more manpower, more technology. We now have air cover across the entire border. We're getting to the point of diminishing marginal returns. What would really help us is if we could improve the legal migration systems so that people come through our ports of entry, we know who they are; we know where they're going; if necessary, we know how long they're entitled to stay. So we shouldn't take these things as a - sequentially. They go together. They are interlinked."
