A town mandating firearms ownership in every household is a fantastic idea. Had this been the case in Newtown, the victims' families would have someone left to sue after Adam Lanza's mother complied with the letter of the law. After all, she was law-abiding and Adam didn't do anything before that day that would have disqualified her from owning those weapons. Oh, don't forget Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden from Jonesboro, Arkansas. They stole their weapons from Golden's grandfather's house and then gunned down their teachers and classmates. They could have taken them from their own home, instead, had this awesome law been in effect in Jonesboro. I think the best idea in the world is to make sure that every home has a firearm regardless of who lives in the house because we all know that only peaceful and law abiding citizens will ever get their hands on them (and yes, this entire comment was dripping with sarcasm).

All this is just a backlash against the current disarmament efforts by some people in our federal government just like the explosive sales of guns in ammunition and the rapid increase in NRA membership.

Several states and municipalities are introducing unenforceable laws and ‘rattling sabers’ to gain votes and to let the feds know that most of the American people will maintain the right to keep and bear arms. It’s that simple. Since guns are restricted in the three largest US cities it’s easy to pick and choose survey phone calls to prove whatever theory a survey is designed to prove. The truth is that outside of those states with draconian gun laws, most people own guns and we will continue to do so.

Forcing people to own a gun is wrong headed. People who do not want to own a firearm will not invest the time and effort necessary to learn how to handle a gun safely and properly. They’d be a danger to themselves and everyone around them. There are unfortunately some in our society who can’t afford even proper nutrition or a decent place to live. They simply don’t have the money for a gun. Still others have good reason to not want a gun in their home such as a child with behavior problems.

It would be reasonable to encourage gun ownership by citizens who can legally do so, but not require it. We should require gun safety training for all students in all schools and perhaps offer firearm training for adults. Anything beyond that is unreasonable

"For me, I’m very much in favor of our Second Amendment rights and they’ve worked for so long." - so, when was the last time firearms in the hands of common citizens (i.e. not a "well-regulated militia") did anything to stop tyranny? And I'm not talking about hyperbole, I'm talking about an actual armed event.

Guns are for cowards and idiots. The 2nd amendment protection has only recently, 1970s been re-interpreted to adhere to individuals not militia. Angry white COWARDS!

progunner - funny, I thought it was started by a former Union General who was angry at the poor marksmanship his troops showed in the Civil War compared to European armies. It was for promoting marksmanship and nothing like what it is today - a fear-mongering shill for the gun manufacturers.

I am very pro gun but this is going a little too far and violates our freedom of choice. It should be a recommendation and not a law. K3HY, you have no knowledge of the bull you are spewing. You probably don't know that the NRA was started by a Christian group to protect recently freed slaves from the KKK by arming them and teaching them how to protect themselves.

If a town wants to,let them. It's no more harsh then banning certain firearms on a city, state,or federal level. If you don't like it,move.Simple as that.Live in a blue or red state,do make all states red or all states blue.
