it's a gradual policy process to first allow pocket knives, and later allow boxcutters, then water, etc. I for one am glad to see the fear-mongering step back a bit. The comments here make me wonder how much freedom Americans are willing to lose in the war against terrorism before they realize that the terrorists have already won without lifting a finger.

Box cutters will still be banned because of the "emotion" involved with those? How about they will still be banned because they are what allowed terrorists to take over a plane and fly it into a building. Those people died because of box cutters, that's why box cutters are banned. This just seems stupid to me, it also seems like something they shouldn't have even made a big announcement about. Plus I think Americans are finally getting used to the fact that going through security can suck sometimes, the lines are long, and they're are strict rules about what you can bring on the flight. but now all of a sudden after making people feel like terrorists for forgetting to throw out bottle of water in their bags, now they're saying sure you can bring a small knife with you no problem, but hand lotion no way hand lotion is way too dangerous......

On a slightly related note I was in O'hare airport a couple of weeks ago and noticed that they sell mens razors, in the shops that are near the gates after you go throw security( not even locked up like a lot of pharmacies sell them). When I first saw them I thought " O great I need razors" then I remembered the reason I didn't have any with me is because you can't take them through security.... but here they were .... so I guess you can't have razors in security but you can buy them and take them with you on the plane....my mind was blown.

I guess most of you think someone will take that 6 cm blade and cut their way into through the locked door to the pilot. Don't care if you have a box knife, the worse thing that will happen is someone will get cut. You cannot get to the pilot so no more hijackings, they can kill the passengers but not the pilot.

Unbelievable.that our nation's leaders are a combination or arrogant and ignorant. 9/11 happened a little more than a decade ago so I guess that is the limit of our governments memories???? How many people believe ANY of our elected officials in DC will fly under these circumstances?? Another way our government is showing us everyday how little we matter to their agenda.

Good.
I can finally bring my pocket knife back on flights again.
An armed citizenry is a good thing even on planes.

TSA lets my my cuticle scissors through, but at overseas airports, they frequently are confiscated. I doubt the pocket knives will make it through any foreign screenings, so this is an empty "loosening" of the rules.

I'm a firm believer that if you can take over a plane with a tiny Swiss Army Knife, you deserve the plane.
