The second amendment did not envision, nor do we want ordinary citizens with heat-seeking missiles on their roofs. We do not want people roaming the streets in jeeps with weaponry mounted on the back. We do not want people roaming the streets with rocket-propelled grenades. Therefor the second amendment does not extend to any and all types of weaponry. The second amendment does not extend to any and all types of weaponry. Second, gun checks were 7 million from January through March, compared to 4.8 million last year. The tragic shooting recently in the school has NOT resulted in significant help addressing the problem, only a committee to study the issues involved. With a 10-year assault weapon ban not significantly reducing crime (FBI and DOJ statistics), its continuation would make no sense and not pass legislatively. A ban of higher capacity magazines would not work for there are literally millions of them in current, legal use. The really disgusting factor is the willingness of mostly left and far left legislators to dispense with 2nd amendment guarantees, and take up all the guns, if they just had the votes. Most Americans are smart enough to see the clear agenda of Feinstein, Schumer, Pelosi and Obama, and that bodes well for a free and open constitutional republic. In order to pass this watered down, relatively ineffective legislation, you will find criminals continue to mostly bypass gun checks and buy guns from their new-found "friends". When will these legislators realize that most criminals do not follow U.S. gun laws? My sense is the only decent part of the legislation is a registry of mental patients committed involuntarily, that is, if you get get the many states that currently contribute few, if any, names to effectively restrict these patients from obtaining guns. Depend on our government to promptly put many returning veterans with PTSD diagnosis into the database, whether they are a danger to themselves and/or others, or not. That is not right, and the current legislation will do little to deter crimes with guns. Felons, new criminals, gang members and druggies are responsible for a lot of the carnage in large cities and should be addressed, not just remove guns or tax them into oblivion for people who have committed no crimes. No one is proposing to take away your guns, only military weapons that were designed from the ground up to kill as many people in the shortest amount of time possible which is just common sense. Their have been laws for a long time that you can't buy a hand grenade, landmine, RPG or a nuclear weapon. I assume you still have your hunting rifles and other ordinary guns. OONOGIL

The tea party and their lackey John Boehner will block everything in the House The only positive thing that has happened is the NRA has been outed. 1. They do not represent hunters and sportsmen; they are a lobbying organization for the gun manufacturers. 2. Their mis-interpretation of the 2nd amendment has been debunked. The 2nd amendment does not give anyone the right to own any weapon they want. 3. Several states have enacted strong gun legislation which will never be challenged in court by the NRA, they know they'd lose. Senator Isakson from Georgia, in a rare show of courgage, said yesterday he didn't give a damn what the NRA wanted, he was going to do the right thing for the citizens of Georgia. The NRA's power is in decline as is the power of the whole Repubican Party Nothing meaningful on gun control is going to come out of this Congress. He was caught with a loaded hand gun & AR 15 in his car. So my statement is also factually correct. newcountryman ..Yah I was being trollish, but Wayne La Poo Poo did say with regards to the mentally and guns that he wouldn’t want someone’s constitutional right infringed because of medical issues & the NRA did back and help a convicted felon win a case in LA.
