European and Asian societies are totally different than US society. So let’s make some realistic comparison of three US cities roughly the same size.

Washington DC and Baltimore Maryland have strict gun control and the highest crime rates in the US. El Paso, Texas is roughly the same size as Baltimore or Washington and very little gun control but it is the safest large city in the US. (Population over 500,000)
Of course guns come into DC and Baltimore illegally so there are guns in those cities, in the hands of criminals. So limited availability of guns can be blamed.
In El Paso an honest citizen can legally purchase an AR-15, semi –auto Uzi, and a matched pair of 1911 Colts along with all the high capacity magazines he can afford, all in the same day. He’ll have to pass a background check if he goes through a dealer or an honest face check if he buys from an individual. Outside influences are; have you ever been to El Paso? It’s a good comparison because there is nothing around it except Ciudad Juarez which has strict gun control. It is one of the most violent cities on Earth and sits across a dry ditch from El Paso. THE safest large city in the US.
On the US side the nearest strict gun control is in California and soon Colorado.

Now, some of you gun ban folks explain that to me. While you try to think up something or totally ignore it, I’m getting ready to go to the range with 3 nice .45 ACP pistols.

“Plain and simple. Do away with guns and you do away with gun related killings.”

May we assume that murder is acceptable to you as long as a gun isn’t used?
May we further assume that it is acceptable for a 6’6” man to beat, rape and murder a 5’0” mother before he burns the house with her and the kids inside but it is not acceptable for her to shoot him to prevent it?
I’ve got some bad news for you. Plain and simple, dead is dead. The weapon used is totally irrelevant.
I don’t think murder acceptable no matter what the weapon is.
I do think that the intended victim of a violent crime has a perfect right to use lethal force to defend himself or herself. They have a duty to protect those less able to defend themselves. If the guy next door puts a .45 hollow point through the cold heart of a home invader, I don’t have a problem with that.
I'm sure criminals feel differetly about it.

correction: "The UK’s violent crime rate IS significantly higher than the US..." despite a complete ban on guns more than 16 years ago. Besides, how many guns, with no humans attached, have you seen jump up and shoot someone?

When are you going to wake up to the fact that it is the humans who massacre who are evil/bad and need to be dealt with?

Plain and simple. Do away with guns and you do away with gun related killings. It worked in Japan and it is now working in parts of Europe. Plain and simple.

POSTED BY: MAD! | MAY 1, 2013, 8:16 PM
Japan is a small homogeneous country where age and respect are still honored (something lost a generation or 2 ago in this country!). The UK's violent crime rate is not significantly higher than the US - so much so that the 'bobbies' now carry guns (after not doing so for years). Chicago and DC have the strictest gun laws, but the highest murder rates. How do you explain that (plz don't change the subject). Where are your facts? ................................................................................................... There have been 29 peer-reviewed studies of economist John Lott’s work on the effect of concealed-carry laws. Eighteen confirm Lott’s results, showing a statistically significant reduction in crime after concealed-carry laws are enacted: a statistically significant drop in crime Ten show no harm, but no significant reduction in crime. Gun control enthusiats have been unable to produce a single peer-reviewed study to discredit Lott’s conclusions

tmferretti wrote:"This is the dirtiest oil in the world, refineries don’t want it, it’s too expensive to clean for gasoline. Most of the pipeline flow will be put aboard tankers and shipped to China. "
.
Why yes... much better to ship that oil to China where they will refine it with only a fraction of the technology and environmental controls that the refineries on the Gulf Coast have had in order to refine DIRTY Venezuelan oil. Much better to ship MILLIONS of barrels of oil in a ship that if it sinks will cause an environmental disaster of epic proportions. A pipeline leak? Detected quickly, isolated instantly, and impact minimized. In addition to everything else, the Chinese can then export the resulting refinery smog to the Left Coast for all the environmental nuts to enjoy the fruits of their logic. What was the comment @ 3:41pm about losing the ability to think logically? LOL

DAN SHAW, I think you've got things all messed up. Your telling me that the NRA, and gun manufacturers (which by the way, most of the funding for the NRA comes from individuals, not companies) managed to overwhelm senators who were being pressed by the white house, organizing for action, Michael Bloombergs 27 Billion dollars and the liberal media? Give me a break, and give up that pitiful excuse. There was nothing meaningful about the gun control legislation, that's why it didn't get voted for.

DAN SHAW

You seem to forget that 94% of Americans support the Presidents elitist agenda of stricter background checks, including hunters and other gun owners.

At least we could have done at least this if the republicans (and yes some democrats) weren’t small change in the gun manufacturer’s pockets.

I never thought any meaningful gun legislation would get through Congress. We need to settle this in the legal system. The victims need to sue the manufacturers and gun dealers. Hopefully the NRA can't buy juries.
