HEALTH CARE ABC News' John Parkinson: " Boehner Predicts Obamacare Will 'Never' Work" As Republicans prepare to vote on a measure that capitalizes on what they say is President Obama's "broken" promise that Americans could keep their current health plan under the Affordable Care Act, House Speaker John Boehner predicted the president's signature health care law would never work and that there was no way for Congress to fix it. "When you step back and look at the totality of this, I don't think it's ever going to work," Boehner, R-Ohio, said in a news conference on Capitol Hill today. LINK

USA Today's Susan Davis: " Democrats try to prevent defections on health care" The White House is stepping up damage control efforts on Capitol Hill where a growing number of Democrats are seeking distance from the Affordable Care Act as dissatisfaction rises over the bungled roll-out of the health care website. Democratic angst grew Wednesday after the White House announced that just over 100,000 people had successfully enrolled in the new health care exchanges. LINK

The Los Angeles Times' Evan Halper: " Obamacare backers scramble to put positive spin on enrollment figures" Supporters of President Obama's healthcare law scrambled Wednesday to control the damage following the administration's release of a report revealing that just 106,000 Americans had successfully enrolled in coverage through it. The administration had hoped that as many as 500,000 people would select a health plan in October, the first month of enrollment. LINK

The New York Daily News' Dan Friedman: " Fewer than 27,000 people signed up for health care using federal website" The Obama Administration revealed Wednesday that just 26,794 Americans signed up for private health insurance through Obamacare in October using the administration's floundering healthcare.gov website. The total was 106,185 if enrollments through 14 state-based websites, including New York's relatively successful site, are included. The administration had projected that nearly 500,000 people would sign up in the first month of President Obama's signature program. LINK

The Boston Globe's Noah Bierman and Tracy Jan: " Obama's health care law roils Democrats" The White House is scrambling to devise a plan to prevent hundreds of thousands of Americans from losing their health insurance as the growing political damage from President Obama's health care law threatens to divide the Democratic Party over his signature achievement. House Democrats berated White House officials during a private meeting Wednesday, imploring them to devise a way to stop the rash of insurance policy cancellations before they are forced on Friday to take a politically difficult vote on a Republican-sponsored remedy. Bloomberg's Alex Wayne and Alex Nussbaum: " Obamacare Depends on Regaining 1 Million Window Shoppers" While 106,185 people enrolled, 10 times as many were far enough in the application process to be deemed eligible for coverage. Some ran into website errors, and others are taking time with a decision, the Obama administration said yesterday. It pointed out that 396,261 people were selected for Medicaid. LINK

The Washington Times' Tom Howell Jr.: " White House releases disappointing Obamacare enrollment total: 106,000" The Obama administration said Wednesday that roughly 106,000 Americans had enrolled in private health coverage through Obamacare by selecting a plan during the first month of activity, an expectedly low number of participants as the White House scrambles to fix the overhaul's main website. The Department of Health and Human Services released the figures after weeks of pleading from Republican lawmakers and other sources, offering the first look at enrollment in Mr. Obama's signature law in the face of well-documented glitches on HealthCare.gov - a federal website that serves residents of 36 states. DEMOCRATS The Hill's Alexander Bolton and Mike Lillis: " Angry Dems bark at White House" Furious congressional Democrats on Wednesday expressed exasperation with the White House for its bumbling implementation of ObamaCare. The recent deluge of bad news on the rollout of the Affordable Care Act has sparked widespread anxiety among Democrats, who are trying to win back the House and retain control of the Senate. Democratic leaders are straining to keep their members from turning against elements of ObamaCare amid pressure from angry constituents. They have pressed the White House to propose solutions to help assuage the anxieties of lawmakers deluged by complaints over canceled insurance policies. LINK

IMMIGRATION The New York Times' Ashley Parker and Michael S. Schmidt: " Boehner Rules Out Negotiations on Immigration" Signaling an end to the push for major immigration legislation this year, Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday that the House will not enter negotiations with the Senate to hash out differences between its immigration plans and the Senate immigration bill - dealing a significant blow to the prospects of comprehensive immigration reform by this Congress. LINK

Politico's Reid J. Epstein: "Obama: Don't Let ACA Problems Stop Immigration" President Barack Obama gave immigration reform advocates a simple message Wednesday: Don't let Obamacare get you down.
