Biden Says People Will Be 'Surprised' By Obamacare Numbers

Vice President Biden predicted that people will be "surprised and pleased" when the Obamacare enrollment deadline is closed tonight and he urged young adults who have yet to sign up to "do it for mom."

Biden made a last minute pitch on the Rachael Ray Show for people, particularly young adults, to sign up before the deadline expires.

"Any young person listening, if you don't need this for your peace of mind, do it for mom, do it for your dad. Get health coverage. Do it for mom," he said.

The veep said that the final numbers for Obamacare enrollments, which got off to a nightmarish start, will finish strong.

"Today's the deadline and I think everyone is going to be really surprised and pleased at how well this has turned out," Biden told Ray.

"I want to say one thing Rachael. Anybody who is in line now, anybody who's on the web, in person being interviewed and or on the telephone… stay in line. They can get into the system," Biden said.

The midnight deadline to sign up - or at least be in line - is the last chance to avoid a penalty for not purchasing insurance in 2014. People will pay the penalty with their federal income taxes next year.

The vice president said today was the eve of another big day - April Fool's Day.

"There are pranks at the White House, but that's not what I worry about," he said, adding that his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, loves the April 1 pranks.

"Jill's dad was a great April Fools' guy… [in] her family, it's like a tradition," Biden said. "What I worry about when I wake up on April Fool's Day is what in the hell is Jill going to do this time. For example, one April Fool's Day we… we get on Air Force 2, we're flying and I say 'Where the hell is Jill?' And I open up the baggage compartment on top, above you know, and she jumps out."
