If you remember your sea-surface temperature phenomena, that’s the cold patch that forms along the equator in place of an El Nino, which is a warm patch. La Ninas have a bunch of different effects, but one to be mindful of, say the oceanographers, is fewer jet streams to prevent Atlantic hurricanes from reaching the U.S. mainland. But it’s February; plenty of time for things to change. More HERE.

I’ve always considered any long-range weather forecasting to be more of an art than a science, and the subsequent effects of La Nina will probably be unpredictable enough to surprise us all. Many thanks for the interesting background link, Ned!
