The Living Daylights

I’ve written my share about daylight savings, and I thought enough was enough–except that this email was sent out this afternoon by a friend here at ABC:

"In case you’re wondering why so little work has come from me, my computer has been down almost all day (it started with a glitch in the daylight-saving update, and then the update gave me new problems), and I have been on the phone all day with the help desk….

"An emergency alert has gone out to the computer support here, and so I hope this will soon be fixed. If not, it might make sense for me to go home and work from my home computer, which works.

"Thank you all for your patience."

I wish I’d have thought of sending a similar e-mail on Monday, since, when all else fails, one can always blame the computer. And such a great excuse, too! I’ll have to keep this in mind for November!

Ned,
What your friend needs to do is reinstall Windows, then tighten the bolts on the rear license plate on his car. That’s always worked for me.

What your friend needs is to sacrifice two chickens and a goat, sprinkling their blood on the affected computer whilst reinstalling Windows and uttering the incantation “I believe in the almighty Balmer and Gates” to eradicate the evil spirits.
Or, your friend could get an Apple Macintosh and just forget about all the foolishness. Mac OS X isn’t perfect either and needed a DST update as well, but it just worked.
