Convergence Gone Mad?

Has it come to this?  We’ve all seen cell phones with built-in cameras, phones with browsers, phones with music players…but a phone with a built-in electric razor? Oh, maybe not.  But it has people talking, and folks here asked me to check it out. On Gizmodo, Sean Fallon posts an item about the one in the picture, saying, "I’m all for convergence, but some gadgets just don’t belong together…." He writes, "The Rong Zun 758 Razor is a GSM phone that features a detachable bottom plate covering a working shaver along with dual SIM card slots, a 2.6-inch touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera, MP3/MP4 player, FM radio, GPRS, Bluetooth connectivity and a microSD slot. It also features an endorsement by David Beckham (whether he knows it or not)." The putative seller, a Malaysian-based website called i-Pmart.com, gives the specs in less-than-idiomatic English: "The first Razor phone that is super-fit men used. Convenience to carry and practical. As long as you give the battery can be full of electric shaving, and can also dial phone." The thing is all over the blogosphere.  The phone, says i-Pmart.com, comes from China for $115.74 plus $21.98 shipping. If you sit through the YouTube video (it’s eight minutes; the razor briefly shows up around the third minute), you begin to wonder.  The video — nothing more than a set of hands demonstrating the phone — is tagged "comedy."

At first I thought it might be a new Sparkfun project. I don’t shave a enough to warrant needing to carry an electric razor around with me.

This is probably something that the Japanese thought of years ago. Do not ask why are they doing this, but rather why not? I mean, when the first camera phones came out, people asked why are they putting a camera in them. I don’t have a problem with these weird inventions, lets just let the market do the talking. I bet there isn’t a snowballs chance in hell that thing would actually sell.

This is probably meant to be used in states that have placed laws against driving while talking with the cell phone up to your head. Was the person talking or shaving?

Please hold while I pull finish shaving!! I can’t hear you because a whisker is in the earpiece.
A couple of obvious questions.
1. How long will the battery last if you are shaving?
2. Do you really want to waste your battery on the razor?
3. How do you keep the whiskers out of the phone?
4. Is there an app to control the height of the blade?
5. Are you charged by the minute or do you have unlimited roaming and free airtime on the razor?
6. Can you text and shave at the same time?
7. Does the warranty cover it being dropped in the sink?
