Why did they not leave the poor little animal stay at the zoo? He was already in captivity. It is very hard for animals to return to that type of lifesyle. It has been proven with many animals. The children loved the little creature and all the money that was raised for him could have kept him at the zoo. I think the zoo made a big mistake by releasing him into the ocean. Now there are alot of people quite upset over this sad situation. I truly hope he is found.

Just wrong, and sad. He should have been given a chance in captivity. Did he not give you (scientists) enough hints??!! Dam.

I agree they should have kept Happy Feet in a zoo....it wasn't fair to the public or the penguin.....he obviously had issues to begin with.

As for those that glamorize his possible being eatern, you are obviously not vegitarians and probably think nothing of killing for food. I feel bad about it when I eat meat.

This penguin swims some 3000 miles to a beach in New Zealand. He is rescued and brought to a zoo. There with much fan fare, he is nursed back to health. All the while this is played up to the public who visit, take pictures, many donate and become attached to this rescued bird. He's named Happy Feet after a kids' movie. Everything changes after somewhere a decision is made to put a tracker on him and leave him approximately 2000 miles from his colony. After he is dropped off, there is a brief period of tracking, then nothing. People start asking questions from them, but overall the handlers become close to MIA themselves.
It was pretty lousy to involve the public, especially kids, in his rescue and rehab, only to turn him into research subject. Unlike his time at the zoo, once on the ship, his survival was not the priority.

He didn't want to leave people and be all alone; thousands of miles from home! That was just wrong! I felt so bad when he was pushed down that slide....wanted to snatch him back! Poor little Happy Feet.

Why did they release this poor creature into the wild after it had been in captivity for such a long time and becoming used to mankind and being fed, etc. Also, why didn't the so-called rescuers and other parties involved in Happy Feet's life give him to a zoo or another facility like SeaWorld?? The poor Penquin did not want to leave the boat and he looked so helpless and lost when the person on the boat gave him a big shove into the big Ocean to try to fend for himself after being with humans so long. Terrible ending for this story and stupid on makind's behalf....as usual!!!!!

And somewhere in the south Pacific, the Misirlou theme from Pulp Fiction has started playing, as a Killer Whale swims away, wistfully digesting his lunch.
