iPad 3 With Verizon, AT&T LTE Expected in Early March

The iPad 3 reports just keep on flowing in. The Wall Street Journal reported today that versions of the forthcoming tablet will be available with AT&T and Verizon LTE, which is capable of providing speeds as fast as Wi-Fi connections.
Like the LTE tablets and phones sold by AT&T and Verizon, the new iPad is said to fall back on the slower 3G network if there’s no LTE service in a particular area. The Wall Street Journal does not detail the service plans or agreements; but unlike the other tablets sold through the carriers, Apple doesn’t require a contract when purchasing a 3G iPad through Verizon and AT&T.
This would mark the first time that Apple has sold a product with the higher speed 4G connection. (Steve Jobs didn’t want to include LTE in the iPhone just yet because of the hit it takes on battery life, but the iPad does have a larger battery.)
There’s also no word on whether there will be Sprint or T-Mobile versions. While T-Mobile is the only major U.S. carrier not to offer the iPhone with its service, Sprint is the only carrier to offer unlimited data for Apple’s phones. All four carriers would not comment on the next generation iPad rumors.
In addition to the aforementioned LTE addition, the next iPad is rumored to have a higher resolution display – double the pixel count of the current iPad – and a faster processor. A number of technology blogs have reported that Apple will hold the iPad announcement March 7.
But the iPad rumors won’t necessary end then. The Journal is also reporting that Apple is in fact working on a smaller, 8-inch version of the iPad, although that version is not expected to launch until later in the year. As per usual, Apple has not commented on any of the myriad predictions of an iPad update next month, which means one thing: There will be even more rumors before we see Apple’s next tablet.

“Sprint is the only carrier to offer unlimited data for Appleās phones” — NOT true at all…!!!
Posted by: RalphF | February 14, 2012, 5:30 pm 5:30 pm
Ralph, it is true. AT&T and Verizon no longer offer unlimited data on the iPhone 4S. Now, if you were grandfathered in you still can have the unlimited plan, but Sprint is the only one offering up unlimited data right now — at least in the US.

Oh Joanna, you should have taken the briefcase!! and yes Ralph to new customers Sprint is the only one that offers unlimited data.

I think he might have been referring to the regional carriers or maybe carriers in other countries. Because some carriers just buy the unlocked iPhones to sell. But the big 3 are covered, so that’s 99% right.

Joanna, you’ll never walk alone. Also, Beiber.

ABC’s comments and layout are so stuffy and old compared to The Verge. Joanna, whip them into shape over there! P.S. we already miss you so much over at the Verge.

Should read quadruple the pixel count of the iPad 2. 0.78MP vs 3.14MP
Posted by: ShaunJ | February 14, 2012, 11:41 pm 11:41 pm
ShaunJ is right, it’s quadruple the pixel count. 2x horizontally times 2x vertically.
Besides that it’s a great summary of the most recent iPad rumours all put nicely in one simple article.
Hope to see you doing ultrabook/laptop reviews for ABC news. Not sure if they already have someone doing them, or if they even do them, but would really like to keep seeing you review them. I’m one of the few post-secondary students without a laptop, and had been reading all your reviews. Will msot likely wait until windows 8 is shipped, but am very interesting in reading your take on the upcoming Vizio laptops.

Will you be able to recommend the iPad 3 over the MacBook Air?

ABC tech podcast is the best idea since Vergecast lost its most special of all special guests. Need an Indian to SternBurn? I’m willing to join.

Joanna I see your Apple love fest will continue at ABC. Have you required the entire team to switch to MBAs yet?
PS Bieber says “hi”
Congrats on your new position!

Where’s the ‘recommend’ button around here?
We’ll miss you at The Verge! I’m sure everyone will keep up with you posts here though, I know I will.

Out of the gate quickly Joanna, nice job! We miss you dearly at The Verge, but wish you the very best here at ABC. Best wishes.

But can I draw on it with a high resolution stylus? Fingerpainting is for losers, you know?

Assuming China lets Apple export the new products. Is Apple shifting manufacturing to another country, yet? How about shifting it back to the good ol’ USA. You may have to deal with higher wages and corporate responsibility, but at least you’ll have a product to ship.
