They use an ad agency that will pay per click. Then they build programs that stay on your computer and act in all sort of ways. They sometimes mirror actual websites you visit. When you try to interact with the site, it acts as if it froze. This allows them to get their clicks on a daily basis. Now imagine this on a large scale. Like hundreds of thousands of computers. They are actually ripping the ad companies off that are paying them as well as the company that hired the ad agency. At least that was the summary of what I read. Makes sense to me.
