As Feds Try to Tackle Credit Issues, Consumer Groups Say More Needs to Be Done

Tandy Kertanis says she wishes that she and her husband had kept better tabs on their credit report and paid more attention to some red flags, such as a three-week span after they moved when they didn't receive any mail. The post office told them it was probably just a temporary glitch — but in reality somebody has filled out a fraudulent change of address form and re-routed their mail to a P.O. box, where the identity thief was able to receive credit card applications for the couple.

Tandy feels the couple has learned the hard way. "You don't realize how much they do with your credit until something bad happens."
