Feb. 26, 2014 -- Actor Sam Worthington was arraigned this morning on assault charges stemming from his Sunday run-in with a photographer in New York City's Greenwich Village.

Worthington, 37, was charged with two counts of third-degree assault, as well as attempted assault and harassment. He could face a maximum of one year in jail if convicted.

The "Avatar" star was also hit with a restraining order, barring him from contact with photographer Sheng Li for six months. Worthington was released on his own recognizance.

Li was arraigned Monday and released without bail after also being charged with misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment. He did not enter a plea.

Worthington hit his victim "with a closed fist several times on his face, causing a laceration to the bridge of his nose and substantial pain," according to the criminal complaint.

The Australian, who did not enter a plea, is due back in court May 8.
