Actor Ryan Gosling will be taking a break from acting. People magazine's " Most Wanted Man" of 2013 will be behind the camera as he directs "How to Catch a Monster" in May.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Gosling talked about moving away from acting.
"I've been doing it too much. I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."
Before Gosling takes a hiatus from being on-screen, he will star in two new films. The first is "The Place Beyond the Pines," which opens in theaters March 29. He co-stars with his girlfriend Eva Mendes and plays a tattooed motorbike rider in a traveling circus in the generational drama. Gosling will also star in a revenge drama this May called "Only God Forgives," in which he plays a man who's been living in exile in Bangkok for the past 10 years after killing a cop.
Gosling was a child actor who received his big first break in "The Mickey Mouse Club." He has played many diverse roles from his romantic films such as "The Notebook" , "Blue Valentine" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love" to his political drama role in "The Ides of March" and the crime drama "Gangster Squad".
Gosling talked to the AP about the roles he has played. "There's a lot of pressure to be the lead of a film," he says. "I have done it. It's not my favorite way to work."
