The Kardashian sisters have always stated that when you date one of them, you date the family-and nobody knows that more than Kanye West. Though West, 36, has a reputation for being outspoken, he's kept a noticeably low-profile on girlfriend Kim Kardashian's reality show, and in a new interview with W magazine, he explains that when he does make appearances, it's just because he cares about her.
"Oh, that's just all for love. It's simply that," said the "Yeezus" rapper, who spoke to the magazine before Kardashian gave birth to their daughter. "At a certain point, or always, love is more important than any branding, or any set of cool people, or attempting to impress anyone. Because true love is just the way you feel."
West and Kardashian, 32, have been dating since last year and announced that she was expecting this past December. On June 15, she gave birth to their daughter, whom they named North.
Since the birth, the couple has been spending a considerable amount of time with Kardashian's family, including her mother, Kris Jenner, who has called the infant "beautiful." But in the W story, West showed that they don't always share a super-tight bond. After he played her a track from his album, Jenner said "Great job," a compliment which clearly irritated West.
"Great job?" he asked. "Great job, Baccarat, for making a glass that can hold liquid! Great job, belt loops, for keeping my pants up!"
Jenner laughed, but then moved to leave. "I love you. You know where to find us, at the George V. Call us tomorrow, if you want."
And despite his attitude toward her mother, West may be sweeter to Kardashian herself. In the interview, he shot down reports that his reality star love, who now favors a more monochromatic look, underwent a style makeover for his benefit.
"Nobody can tell my girl what to do," he said. "She just needed to be given some platforms of information to work from."
That also includes an occasional controversial look.
"For her to take that risk in front of the world, it just shows you how much she loves me," he gushed. "And how much she actually loves the opportunity to learn. You got, like, a million companies saying, 'This is impacting your brand! This is impacting your fans! And blah blah blah.' But she still sees this light of beauty."
