Kate Gosselin Sues Ex for Alleged Computer Theft and Hacking

The divorced former reality TV stars Jon and Kate Gosselin of TLC's hit show "Jon & Kate Plus 8? are locked in another bitter dispute.

Kate Gosselin is suing her ex-husband, whom she was divorced from in 2009, accusing him of hacking into her computer and phone so he could help a friend write a tell-all book.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania on Aug. 26, Kate Gosselin alleged that her former husband illegally hacked into her email account, phone and bank accounts, and "stole a hard drive" from her house, giving the contents of her email account and hard drive to his friend, Robert Hoffman, to help Hoffman write his book, "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World."

Kate Gosselin is asking for an undisclosed amount of money, claiming Jon Gosselin damaged her reputation.

Katie Couric asked Kate Gosselin about the tell-all book last fall.

"It says among other things that you mistreat your kids. What did you think about that book?" Couric asked Gosselin.

"Although I would love to, I'm advised not to say anything about it at this time," Gosselin, 38, replied.

The legal team for the former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant got Amazon.com and others to dump the book, on the grounds that the information was "obtained illegally."

"She has as much right to this being kept private as anyone," Gosselin's attorney, Marc Randazza, told ABC News.

On his blog, Hoffman said the material was "completely legal," saying he pulled it from Kate's own trash.

"If they claim that they got this information from digging through her trash, we look forward to exploring that through discovery," said Randazza.

Meanwhile, Kate and Jon's relationship is said to be less toxic now, with both of them telling People magazine they now lead more simple lives.

"She is being very careful with her money, but her kids are doing well," said People magazine staff editor Charlotte Triggs. "Jon says for his part, when he has his days with the kids, he does not answer any phone calls. He is fully focused on being a dad."

ABC News could not immediately reach Jon Gosselin or his friend Hoffman, the author of the book, for comment.
