Cher is backtracking on comments she made earlier this week about Miley Cyrus' controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
In a flurry of tweets posted on her account Wednesday, the 67-year-old pop star said she was "a little ashamed" for her earlier comments.
"I didn't keep my big Opinionated mouth Shut.WTF is MY PROBLEM ! I'm 2 Old to fall prey 2?Tell us, Oh wise 1,What did YOU think of M.S ? " Cher wrote.
"What I should have said,"I didn't like it that much, but she's Pushing The Envelope, being an ARTIST ! She's Talented,& DIDNT COMMIT A FELONY," she tweeted.
Cher, who's been known to push a few envelopes herself, added that Cyrus was "brilliant," using an expletive as a modifier, because "we're still talking about it."
She concluded with, "Ps this is Not an apology 4 what I Thought, its a Reminder, that if I don't practice my principles,I loose Them"
In an interview published Tuesday in USA Today, Cher criticized Cyrus for her provocative performance at last month's VMAs, which involved twerking with Robin Thicke and running a foam finger along her body.
"I'm not old-fashioned," she said. "She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well. She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated."
Cyrus, who recently announced her split from fiance Liam Hemsworth, has plenty of defenders.
Britney Spears, who memorably gyrated with a snake at the VMAs, told "Extra," "I remember that age when I was just transferring into my career and doing more controversial things and the energy that you feel, all this chaos going on, and she is on fire right now, she's just a ball full of energy."
