The bestselling erotic romance that launched a national conversation about "Mommy Porn" is back with a new guilty pleasure for men and women to indulge in at their leisure: Fifty Shades of Grey Wine.
British author E.L. James, whose trilogy about a college graduate's relationship with a sexually adventurous business magnate sold more than 70 million copies worldwide and is currently being made into a movie, has introduced two "personally blended" bottles, titled Red Satin and White Silk.
If reading those names whet your appetite, there's more. The red is described as a blend of "Petite Sirah and Syrah with flavors of black cherry, cocoa powder, creamy caramel and vanilla, leather and clove spice," according to a news release. Meanwhile, the white is a "Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc" combination with "floral aromatics of lychee and honey, tempered by flavors of crisp grapefruit, mineral and lush pear with a faint hint of butterscotch."
James said in a statement that "Wine plays an important role in "Fifty Shades of Grey, adding to the sensuality that pervades a number of scenes."
A list on the "Fifty Shades of Grey" website currently lists 17 moments during the plot that include wine and other spirits, such as "Ana tied to the bed, blinded by her rolled-up shirt, and given wine via Christian's mouth."
The wine is currently sold on FiftyShadesWine.com but will be available beginning Monday, Sept. 30, at Albertsons, Wine.com and other retailers nationally for $17.99.
