After Jon Gosselin's interview with Oprah Winfrey, where he claimed that reality TV, specifically the family's show "Jon & Kate Plus 8," gave his eight children developmental issues, his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, has fired back in a blog simply titled " My Response."
Gosselin, 38, said she found it "very heart breaking" that her ex, 36, chose a public forum, like TV, to discuss the development of their children.
"These opinions are, in reality, value judgments made about our children and they are based on his limited visits with our children," she wrote Monday. "Because he has spoken negatively about our children, I feel I owe it to them to respond on their behalf. Each and every one of our children has met and continues to exceed all physical, mental and emotional developmental milestones throughout their lives."
Jon and Kate Gosselin are parents to twins Cara and Mady, 13, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel, 9. The couple divorced in 2009.
Jon Gosselin pointed to the children's behavior as cause for concern.
"Yes, they have trust funds, and they're taken care of educationally . Great," he said in an interview that aired this weekend. "But developmentally, they have problems with their peers, and they have problems with talking to other people."
But his former wife wrote that she monitors the children and their development along with their pediatrician and school staff.
"It is also very normal in a family, especially a large family, to have a full range of personalities, abilities, talents, hobbies and struggles," she added. "However, anyone who has personally met our children all have the same thing to say: they are the most normal, pleasant, polite, loving and well adjusted children they have ever met."
Gosselin closed her note by saying she wrote it so that when her children grow up and possibly see their father's interview, including his "untrue and hurtful statements," they know their mother spoke out on their behalf.
"If our children ever stumble upon that interview," she wrote, "I want to be able to point them to this statement so that they know that I publicly set the record 100% straight on this one, for their sake."
