Bill Weir's Biography

Bill Weir was named co-anchor of "Nightline" in July 2010 after serving as co-anchor of the weekend edition of "Good Morning America," which he helped launch in 2004. His reporting is also featured on "World News with Diane Sawyer," "Good Morning America," "20/20" and ABC News-Yahoo! News digital series "This Could Be Big."

Since joining ABC News Weir has journeyed to more than 40 countries and 50 states to cover breaking news and uncover global trends, while interviewing numerous stars of stage, screen and the corridors of power. In 2012, Weir traveled to London to cover the Summer Olympics and he had an unprecedented look inside the Foxconn factories where Apple products are made in China.

Weir brought viewers along to witness the devastation and human resilience after the 2011 Japanese tsunami and was there for the incredible rescue of 33 Chilean miners trapped underground for 69 days. He waded through the floodwaters of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, dodged Taliban bullets in Afghanistan and led the network's coverage of "Iraq, Where Things Stand" at the height of the American troop surge.

Weir's live reports have come from atop the Golden Gate Bridge and below the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. He was the first American to broadcast live from Tibet. Jumping out hot air balloons, climbing frozen waterfalls and wading the Amazon highlight his signature adventure reporting.

In June 2007, Weir was named anchor of the ABC News magazine "iCaught," and as a writer and anchor, he produced several special hours for the network on topics ranging from religion to brain science, from the business of mail-order brides to the rise and fall of General Motors.

Before joining ABC News, Weir wrote, developed and hosted shows for the FX and USA Networks and was an anchor and reporter in Los Angeles, Chicago, Green Bay and Austin, MN.

Weir lives in New York with his wife and daughter and sincerely believes he could escape from prison if the need ever arose.
