The "This Week" powerhouse roundtable debates President Obama's new charm offensive, Sen. Rand Paul's filibuster fight, and the battle over the budget and immigration, Sunday on "This Week."
After weeks of stalemate over automatic spending cuts, President Obama stepped up his outreach to Republicans this week, hosting dinner with key GOP senators, and sharing lunch with Rep. Paul Ryan. Will the new dining diplomacy make a difference in making Washington work? Can any breakthroughs be made over immigration reform and a long-term deal on the budget? And did Sen. Rand Paul's 13-hour filibuster start an important conversation over drones, while scrambling partisan divides on national security – or was it a meaningless stunt?
The powerhouse roundtable debates those topics and all the week's politics, with Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who joined GOP senators dining with President Obama this week; DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.; ABC News' George Will; Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman; and Bloomberg News White House correspondent Julianna Goldman.
Plus, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, co-author of the new book, "Immigration Wars," goes one-on-one with George Stephanopoulos. Will his seeming reversal on creating a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants hurt his standing on immigration reform? And as the GOP works to reboot its image, can the man with the famous last name lead his party in a new direction, or is the country not ready for another Bush presidential run in 2016?
And in this week's Sunday Spotlight, filmmaker R.J. Cutler discusses his latest documentary, "The World According to Dick Cheney," featuring extensive interviews with the former vice president who Cutler calls "as significant a non-presidential political figure this country has ever known."
