— -- The Miami Marlins used Morse code to announce the team's latest signing.

The baseball team posted a cryptic audio message online Wednesday featuring a series of beeps.

A second message followed, this time full of dots and dashes.

The announcement caused team mascot Billy the Marlin to visit a museum, as Morse code was developed by Samuel F.B. Morse in the 1830s for use in telegraph communication.

But Billy had the wrong Morse in mind. The Morse code announcement preceded the news that the Marlins had signed outfielder and first baseman Michael Morse to a two-year deal.

The Florida native, 32, helped the San Francisco Giants win the World Series last season.
