Mike Gravel
Same stance, different war: That is the main motivation behind Mike Gravel's run for the White House. Gravel began his political career speaking out against the Vietnam War and waging a five-month filibuster to end the draft. He's been out of the Senate for more than 25 years now, but Gravel is getting back into politics because he believes the current war in Iraq is comparable to the Vietnam conflict he so adamantly opposed 30 years ago. A lively 76 years old, Gravel is the oldest candidate in the 2008 field. His resume reveals an array of experience, everything from driving a New York City taxi to serving as a special agent in the U.S. Army. He is perhaps most known for releasing and publishing a portion of the Pentagon Papers, the once top-secret report that revealed the origins of U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
