   Ford Motor Co. has reported a massive eight point seven billion dollar loss now in the second quarter the auto maker partially blames a sharp drop in demand as consumers look for smaller more fuel efficient cars ABC's Charlie -- is joining us now with more Charlie good morning. Good morning so now as a result of those losses Ford Motor Co. is basically going to make some big changes by bringing in European small car mob. Yes exactly I mean for which really was synonymous with these large -- vehicles is really trying to turn things around. They're going to start making smaller cars they're taking two factories in the United States that made larger vehicles. And they're gonna start producing these smaller ones like Ford Fiesta . This is all early part of a larger program that the new CEO relatively new CEO of Ford has. Which is to try and make a global car that is made around the world and customized different countries so instead of having certain types of cars in Europe certain types of cars and Asia. You can have one car for example the fiesta and you make it in Europe can make it in the US and you make -- an Asian solid everywhere is that our should be here probably about twenty and 2011. Well it's gonna take a while and I'm very familiar with the Ford Fiesta having grown up in Ireland it's a very popular car yes very much evidence of the landscape here is gonna basically change with regard to the cars people are driving. It is and it's been the big risk because while they've been losing so much money when it comes through suvs sales have been down dramatically -- truck sales have been down. And then Ford F 150 of the whole F series has been one of the most profitable. Truck series out there they're they've decided that they have to go this way if -- -- an operation expecting that oil prices will stay high. What happens if oil prices would plummet again which not many people are expecting that if gas prices were to drop. People may not necessarily change the behavior in May not be interested in those smaller vehicles so they are really. Gambling or betting that the future is going to be a world where people wanna serve gasoline more. And that they want to smaller cars that will really have to see. Whether or not these gas prices stay where they aren't consumers really do change their behavior.
