Dick's Picks: Father's Day Gadgets From the Gizmo Guy

Dick's Picks: Father's Day Gadgets From the Gizmo Guy

It's that time of year: Father's Day, and once again you have no idea what to get dear old dad. But if your father's got a soft spot for gadgets and gizmos, here are just a few suggestions:

Norelco Cool Skin

This brand-new electric razor has a built in dispenser that holds NIVEA for Men alcohol-free lotion or gel cartridges. The high end model features a bright Multi-function LED display, and one hour charge time. The lotion or gel helps the razor give you a close, comfortable shave. (Norelco says it shaves as close as a blade.) And when you're done shaving, you smell good too. Well, a least thought I did after I used the moisturizing system. You can use the Cool Skin wet or dry and simply rinse under the faucet. It's in stores just in time for Father's Day, and there are models from about $70 to $140. Check out www.norelco.com for more information.

The Gadget Tie

If you want to give dad the "traditional tie" as a Father's Day gift, check out this is a new one from SCOTTeVEST. They're the folks who make all kinds of clothing for the techno whiz who wants to carry all their electronic gear with them. If you look closely at the pattern on the red silk tie you'll see the design depicts tiny PDA's, MP3 players, and cell phones. And, in keeping with the rest of the SCOTTeVEST line, even the tie has a hidden pocket to store your credit card, loose change or other small items. The Gadget Tie is under $30. Also check out their new TEC baseball cap which features storage of its own at www.scottevest.com.

Kameleon 8-in-1 Remote

Here's a great idea for the Dad (or anyone, including yourself) who wants to control up to eight devices with just one remote. One For All says the Kameleon is pre-programmed with the world's largest code library and is guaranteed to work with more brands and models. The features I like include the vivid backlighting and the "active key illumination." That means when you choose a device to use, only the keys necessary to use that device light up. There's also a 6-in-1 model carried by Radio Shack, and prices range from $60 to $80. More information is available at www.oneforall.com.
