Grinch ♪ Reporter: Now, the superstar, actor and comedian, is taking on the role of roland, in his first children's book. About a wave who worries that one day when he hits the beach, his life will be over. Until he realizes, he's not just a wave. But the whole, wide ocean. I remember when I was a kid. I had real fears about parents were smokers. I remember locking myself in the bathroom one day for hours with their carton of cigarettes. Reporter: To hide them. I was afraid they were going to die. Kids have fears about life and what's going to happen to mom and dad. I wanted to give them something that reassures them that no one's going anywhere. Reporter: While the story is partially based on memories of childhood fears, the idea of writing a book was based on some of carrey's happiest moments as a child. You bring a book and share it together, it's a special thing. Reporter: Magical. That's why carrey has dedicated the book to his 3-year-old grandson, jackson. At some point in this book, comes off the press, I'm going to be there and do that. Reporter: And read it. Carrey was involved in the book's illustrations. He drew a picture of what roland would look like. He collaborated with daughter, jane, who composed the music for THE ROLAND eBOOKS. It really feels good that I'm doing something for that purpose.
