Transcript for Wild Weather Coast to Coast: Fires, Blizzards and Tornados
First to the wild weather that's taking hold over so much of the country right now. Sam is tracking it all. Those fierce storms are causing havoc out west and tornado, blizzards today. Today. Yesterday it was getting cranked up. Powerhouse storm that will sweep the country -- it is a three-day event. The storm is getting put together in the mountains. Winds powerful enough to take over the western third of the nation. Take a look at step one as we crank the storm up. That's the winds. Dangerously high winds whipping through california up to 87 miles an hour in san bernardino county. Closer to the coast winds stronger than 50 miles an hour that sparked this blaze. Hundreds evacuated from their homes after that wind-driven brush fire burned over 170 acres destroying at least two homes. Winds strong enough to take down trees. You can barely make out there's a car underneath and luckily the driver was okay. Without warning the branches right over there had came crashing down on my car. Reporter: In colorado more strong winds. A tree smashing through this house with a family inside. My mouth dropped. Like what happened? I could never imagine seeing this like happen to my home. Reporter: But not just winds, there were strong storms. These storm chasers catching up with a possible tornado in yuma county, colorado. There's a tornado. Reporter: Take a look at this midwest dust storm. You can barely see the road in front of you. More winds and strong thunderstorms today, at least 12 states are also under winter storm watches and warnings from new mexico to iowa and there are blizzard warnings in at least two states with up to two feet more snow expected. And maybe I didn't do this picture justice because josh came over and looked at it. That's the tree and the lawn and a push upside down. That's how powerful it was. This is likely to be one of the toughest days. That's where we think they'll develop and could carry tornadoes right there in the zone. To des moines to kansas city, abilene, austin, likely we'll light up with these thunderstorms and take them east, chicago, involved with this. Pittsburgh, tomorrow. Memphis, jackson, also into new orleans and then don't forget we've got blizzard conditions out in two states today and heavy hit of snow for that north dakota/south dakota area. This storm has it all. All four seasons kind of supersized into one event, guys. That is some system. Thank you very much.
