How Is Depression Diagnosed In Children/Adolescents?

Question: How is depression diagnosed in children/adolescents?

Answer: Typically, the way we diagnose depression in children and adolescents is through talking with them, talking with adults in their life, and talking with other people in their lives.

We may have them fill out some questionnaires, but often we just do a thorough interview with them. And we want to know about their thoughts and their feelings, their sadness, their self-esteem, and whether or not they're able to enjoy the activities that they typically enjoy in their lives.
