What Is The Relationship Between Depression And Anxiety In Children/Adolescents?

Question: What is the relationship between depression and anxiety in children/adolescents?

Answer: Well that's an interesting question and a complex one, in that children who are depressed also tend become anxious, and anxious children often become depressed. So they tend to co-occur -- they tend to be comorbid amongst children and adolescents.

That has some important clinical implications as well in that, if you have depression with anxiety at the same time, it's likely that -- the treatment response will likely not be as strong as if you had depression alone. The same thing occurs with anxiety. Having the two conditions make it a little bit more difficult to treat.
