Is Erectile Dysfunction (Impotency) Inevitable With Diabetes?

Question:Is Erectile Dysfunction (impotency) inevitable with diabetes?

Answer:Certainly patients with diabetes, whether it be type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes, have more problems with erectile function. So erectile dysfunction is very, very common in patients with diabetes, but not necessarily expected.

We do find that ultimately patients with diabetes may suffer from erectile dysfunction either because of problems with blood flow, or problems with the nervous system, so these complications can often be associated and cause erectile dysfunction. However, it's not inevitable, many men with diabetes live into the late years and maintain erectile function.
