What Are My Treatment Options For Ventricular Tachycardia, And Are There Medicines That Can Treat It?

Question: What are my treatment options for ventricular tachycardia, and are there medicines that can treat it?

Answer :The treatment of ventricular tachycardia depends a great deal on the type of ventricular tachycardia that one has and also whether or not there is any type of underlying heard disease present. There are patients whose hearts are otherwise normal in whom ventricular tachycardia may cause very little in the way of symptoms and may be easily treated, either with medications or a technique known as catheter ablation. In more serious forms of ventricular tachycardia, there are typically associated with underlying heart disease and may need to be treated with an implantable defibrillator, often in conjunction with a medication and sometimes in conjunction with a catheter ablation procedure.

So the important questions really to ask are, what are the associated heart disease, if any, and what type of ventricular tachycardia is the patient having? And that will determine in large part what the treatment options are.
