Should I Be Doing Something Special For My Skin During The Winter Months?

Question: Should I be doing something special for my skin during the winter months?

Answer: In the winter months, your skin tends to feel drier and the most important thing is to moisturize. Remember to moisturize right after you get out of the shower. And while it's tempting to take really hot showers, lukewarm showers are better because hot water breaks down the lipid barrier in the skin.

Another thing to remember in the winter months is lip balm, as your lips tend to be really dry.

Eczema, which is a condition where you get redness and scaling of the skin, often tends to flare in the winter months. There are some over-the-counter products, such as hydrocortisones that can be used, but if you notice that these are not helping, it's time to see your dermatologist and get a prescription treatment that can be very beneficial for that.
